Bon VoyageThings got really crazy during our last two weeks in the States. Taking a year off requires a lot of advanced planning and even
more last minute details that were not planned. Some of the planned stuff
included selling the Civic and Escort, getting health insurance, cleaning the
condo, turning the condo over to a management company, putting everything we
own into a 10x20x11 storage unit, and packing our backpacks for the trip. By
the way our starting luggage weight is 130 lbs. Karen will be carrying 50 and
Pete will be carrying 80. Hopefully we will never have to walk very
far. Some of the unplanned events included problems with getting the health insurance so we were actually uninsured the last week we were in the States...the Escort breaking down and having to be repaired before it was sold...unplanned repairs to the condo... We did have a chance to have some fun before we left. On Saturday, March 10, two days before we left the States, Mike and Bev Davis from our sailing club, Chesapeake Catalina Yacht Club
(CCYC), threw us a first class Bon Voyage party that enabled us to say good-bye
to numerous friends and family members. Thanks again to Mike and Bev for the
fabulous party. During the next year we plan to explore new lands, discover new
cultures and learn more about sailing life. To occupy what we perceive as
possibly a lot of free time we also plan to learn French using audio CDs and a
book - learn and practice yoga - workout regularly (when possible) to get into
better shape and lose weight (Karen wants to lose 5 lbs, Pete starting with 215
lbs wants to lose 20 lbs) - (Karen) keep studying piano using a small battery
operated piano keyboard - (Pete) study and play better chess - and read, read,
read.We hope you enjoy our website as much as we hope to enjoy keeping it up to date for you with our adventures.
